PROTECTING PENNSYLVANIA'S
CHILDREN & FAMILIES

HB 350, the Pennsylvania Uniform Parentage Act (“PA UPA”), would modernize Pennsylvania’s outdated parentage laws to ensure that they are clear, equitable, and inclusive of all families, including families created through assisted reproduction.

The PA UPA will provide courts, lawyers, and parents with clarity on how to establish parentage, the legal relationship between parent and child, which is fundamental to a child’s security and well-being across their lifetime.

What is parentage?

Parentage is the legal relationship between parent and child. Legal parentage is the source of many important rights and responsibilities, including custody, child support, a parent’s right to make decisions about medical care and education, children’s right to health insurance coverage, Social Security survivor benefits, and inheritance.
